Your Car Insurance May NOT Cover All Drivers of Your Vehicle

Your Car Insurance May NOT Cover All Drivers of Your Vehicle

If your car insurance rates drop or you are offered a policy for significantly less, you better be careful.  Auto accident insurance policies are now being written to only cover the drivers that are specifically listed in the policy.  If you, your spouse, kids, friends, or anyone else that drives your car and is not listed on these types of policies, there may not be any coverage in the event of a car accident.  You and/or the driver could be personally responsible for all the damages caused in the auto accident.  This is a big change in how car insurance has operated in Pennsylvania for decades.  Unfortunately, many people will not know this and assume their insurance covers all drivers as auto insurance policies have for many decades in Pennsylvania.  The case responsible for this major change is An v. Gillmore & Victoria Fire and Cas. Co., 2015 Pa.Super. 84 (Pa. Super. April 17, 2015 Gantman, P.J., Shogun, and Allen, JJ).
